Grand Performance: The
Professional Voice
Communication is much more than just the words we say.
Research shows effective
communication is a combination of body language (55%), tonality (38%) and words make up just 7%.
As a professional opera singer and training consultant, Lindsey
Marshall has blended these two disciplines to create a comprehensive set of development
programs.
As a performer and trainer Lindsey understands how body language, tonality and words come
together to create engaging and compelling communication.
-
Have you ever wondered how opera singers can project their voice to back of a
theatre without a mic?
-
How do they do this night after night without damaging their voices?
-
How do they engage an audience of thousands with their stage presence (body
language) and voice (tonality)?
Our vocal identity is a combination of all these qualities and greatly influences the way our
presentation and communication is received.
The Professional Voice addresses all aspects of presentation, from mental
preparation to vocal care and delivery. A healthy vocal identity serves everyone from the student to the CEO

Recent Case Studies
The Professional Voice provides a range of programs to
match individual client requirements.
Here are some case studies of programmes recently developed:
1. Women in Business
As the district manager of a financial organisation, Client A felt she was
being held back by her voice. Her vocal identity was modelled on her very quietly spoken and petite
mother. Delivering important information was not taken seriously by her predominantly male team, and this was
holding back her career. In four 2 hours sessions, Client A discovered her true voice which was actually full
and engaging. The change vocal identity was so profound even immediate family members didn't recognise the
new voice over the telephone. Shortly after this Client A was promoted to regional manager.
2. Contact Centre
A major Australasian Telco wanted to increase customer satisfaction and deepen
rapport with their clients. Their staff were taught to recognise the thinking preference associated with the
customer's tonality. Tracking tonality and thinking preference lead to a dramatic increase (over 25%) in
customer satisfaction and a dramatic reduction in call back volumes.
3. Senior Training Consultant
A senior training consultant for a major publishing house in Australia had to
travel for 1 week every month to deliver regional training programs. For the last two trips, by day 3 of 5
the consultant had lost her voice.
The Professional Voice addressed elements of her vocal identity and her vocal
function, especially the ability to create volume through resonance. The consultant hasn't lost her voice
since.
